Another Monday!

I have had another ephiphany about this quilt. Has only taken me 3 attempts at this quilt!
I am making this my Auntie Green Take 3 ITSO, that is, In the Style Of the original Auntie Green quilt and not a reproduction of the original quilt.

I was introduced to this teminology by quilt maker Allan Tremain at a recent seminar in Melbourne on Reproducing old quilts. As a maker of applique quilts I have to stamp my personality and foibles (sp?) into my quilt as the original maker of the Auntie Green quilt did!

So once completed my quilt will yell 'I am an Auntie Green Quilt but it will be a little different!

I have so many old quilts I want to make ITSO the original quilts but with freedom to add a bit of me! Next two I want to do, that is after Auntie Green, is the Reconciliation Quilt and the Coffin Quilt. And yes I have written for permission.

Another Monday and so time to report on the progress of my Auntie Green. Something I noticed when starting on the chain around the central medallion. One border has one less chain than its counterpart! I just love the serendipity of this quilt. Since I have allowed myself to be 'free of perfection' whilst making this my Take 3 of Auntie Green I am enjoying it so much more!

I am on schedule with my timetable (don't know if it will be the same in a few month's time) and WILL have a complete quilt top to take to Baltimore on the Prairie in September. And, then I plan to enter the quilt into Queensland Quilters Quilt Exhibition in October 2013!

So what have I learnt in this past week about Auntie Green? You cannot have rolls of bias when you have a kitten. Thompson, the kitten, loves bias!

Well its Monday and I am pleased with my result to date! Have decided to add broderie perse for some of my applique as I have found the most wonderful fabric. Finally, I am really enjoying applueing this quilt!

Take 3 Auntie Green

Well at long last I am satisfied with this my third attempt at the 'Auntie Green' quilt. A little background. First saw the 'Auntie Green' quilt in a display curated by Dr. Annette Gero at the Ipswich Library a few years ago. The quilt was also published in Dr, Gero's book 'Fabric of Soceity'. A discussions with Annette she gave me permission to reproduce the quilt from the photo in her book. So no copyright laws were broken! I set a challenge for 5 of my American friends from 'Baltimore on the Prairie' and 5 Australians to recreated their version of Auntie Green using my line drawings. No instructions were given. The quilt tops will be unveiled at Baltimore on the Prairie this September, 2012.

So now you are up to speed with the background of the challenge.

It has taken me this long to understand my stumbling block on this quilt. I was trying to make it balanced, attractive shapes and perfect! My bad! Upon studying the quilt in more detail I realised the original quilt was none of these things. Since this realisation I have felt such freedom with this quilt. I stitch before I come to shop, I stitch when I get home and in the middle of the night when I cannot sleep.

I plan on updating my block every Monday and adding a photo - not quite sure how to do that as yet. Please keep me on track...I need all the encouragement I can get!!!

Well its about time for me to start blogging again. Started to blog, lost motivation with both blogging and applique but am now back on track! At long last!

A First in my Life!

Well another first in my life - my own blog!
I am an avid quilter with Baltimore Album Quilts and Reproduction Quilts, their history and making - my passion!
I will use this blog to plot my progress as I work on 6 large Baltimore Album Quilts and hopefully one day will be able to proudly display all 6 completed.

Today is Day 1 on that road !
